Feeling much more human after food and more coffee, Squall eyed his lover across the breakfast table. He was content to be waking up with Seifer and facing an entire week of waking up with Seifer. So much so that he found himself smiling for no other reason. It wasn’t the first time he’d woken up with Seifer – his boyfriend, lover and confidante – but after a year of only stolen moments and bare weekends together an entire week, maybe even two if they hadn’t had a blazing row by then, seemed new enough to be a special thing.

“What’s that look for?” Seifer asked, sliding his hand over Squall’s and squeezing gently. “Squall?”

“Just thinking.”

That made Seifer look concerned and rub his thumb over Squall’s knuckles. “That isn’t always a good thing, you know. What are you thinking about?”

Squall let his answer be the simplest one he could. He lifted Seifer’s hand and kissed the back gently. Seifer visibly melted at the response, grinning like he’d just won the Galbadian lottery. “So… what are we going to do on the first day of our vacation? Visit the pool? Shop? Tour a few bars?”

Squall turned his head to look at the bathroom.

“See if we can fit two people in the hydrospa tub?” Seifer continued, noting Squall’s line of sight. “Baby, are we even gonna leave our room on this vacation? Not that I’m knocking it but you need some sun on this vacation. Sooner or later.”

“Soon as I find my sunglasses, you were too tired to appreciate the mess these people call hall carpet.”

Shuddering, Seifer shook his head. “Caught a glimpse when they bought room service up. You’re right, let’s stay in here.”

Squall stood, circling the table to stand in front of Seifer’s chair without ever letting go of Seifer’s hand. “Thanks. For coming out here with me,” he said, pushing Seifer back in the small arm chair gently and crawling into his lap. There was something very tempting about Seifer in a loose shirt and linen slacks. The Seifer part to be precise.

“’bout time you took a break. A real break.”

“Shh. Don’t spoil the moment,” he said, sliding his fingers through Seifer’s short choppy hair and leaning in close to kiss him. A slow, loving kiss. A kiss to remind Seifer just how much Squall cared for him.

When Squall broke the kiss, reluctantly, Seifer was almost panting, gazing at him half dazed and still grinning. “Oh Hyne,” Seifer murmured. “We are So going to get kicked out of the pool before this week is out.”

“Oh, Squall said. A challenge.” Squall purred.
