On the second day of my life threatening illness, we'd made love before he had to run off for a meeting with a promise to come back when he was finished. He couldn't wheedle out of it so he'd had to go and I was content enough to stay in bed.
Though after he'd gone and I'd dozed for a while, I realised it might be a good idea to drop an email to work to let them know what had happened. Squall had left his laptop set up and running in the corner of the room and I figured I could make it that far. So I dragged myself over and was careful not to read anything of the Balamb garden programs he'd left running, clicking on the little deelie to show the desktop to me again.
I felt a little pang of jealousy when I realised he had a picture of a half naked guy as his background... it took me a few minutes to realise that it was *me.*
He'd put the picture of me with the cowgirls, the one where you couldn't see my face on the wallpaper. He'd even cut the girls off, so it was just me in a nice little frame on a mixed background of greys and whites.
Maybe he didn't love me just yet, but it sure as hell had me grinning like an idiot.
I mailed work, staggered back and collapsed onto the bed just as the door had opened. Squall eyed me and the laptop and took up the old hipshot pose.
I gave him my most sheepish look and shrugged. "Can't talk," I croaked. "Had to mail work."
"Did you see?"
When all else fails, act dumb. It's kept Rin going this long. "See what?"
"...You're grinning like an idiot," he tossed a bag from the pharmacy onto the bed beside me and shut the laptop down. He sighed at me and if I hadn't been sure I was hallucinating I'd have thought he was blushing at me again.
"You can't help it if you're attracted to my hot bod. I would be if I were you."
He came to my side of the bed - Hyne I have a side of the bed... Hyne, so does he! - and checked my forehead with his palm. "You are pretty warm."
"Just get down here and help me sweat this out a while longer,"
At least he did as he was told. Even if he was aggravating, a little bastard and looked gorgeous in the mornings, I was pretty sure we were going to make it and he was going to love me. Because I was damned if I was going to let him go.
