Title: Reassurances.
Description: Mpreg arc. I wrote this for Race's birthday, and it kept growing... and growing... Warning for MPreg, of course. Set in a world where time compression didn't end, and Squall's team failed in their battle against Ultimecia.
Pairing: seifer/squall
Rating: PG
Word count: 582
Notes: Drabbles/ficlets tend to be written at work, so they're not as lucid as some of my writing. They're also completely unbeta'd unless otherwise stated, please forgive this.

Squall closed the door quietly behind him. The girl looked up, her eyes red and her make up smeared with her tears.

"Squall... are you going to tell me to get rid of it too?"

He said nothing, crossing to the bed slowly. When he was close enough he held out the glass of coke, a scoop of home made lemon ice cream floating on the top along with two cherries and a pink straw.

"I'm not a kid anymore," she muttered, watching the glass.

"No, you're not. Never lost the sweet tooth though, did you?" Squall tipped his head, a faint smile on his lips as her hand snaked out and took the tall glass.

The girl sat up, curling up and cradling the glass against herself. Her long, dark auburn hair framed her face - even when she was upset she was lovely. "Dad's gonna kill Caden."

"Your dad will have to go through me. And to get to me, he'll have to go through Seifer. Caden will be okay,” Squall paused and frowned. “and when did you stop calling me Uncle Squall?”

Selina looked up, rubbing her eyes with the heel of her hand. “I figured you’d be pissed off with me too. Anyone would think I’d done it on purpose with how dad was acting. Mom too…”

“Have you decided what you want to do?”

She blinked, surprised at the question. Her perfect pink lips opened in a little ‘o’ of surprise before she half smiled and shrugged. “You’re not going to tell me to get rid of it and go back to school?”

Squall shook his head. A baby – even an unplanned one – was not exactly something he could order her to destroy. It was her body and he’d never been able to get rid of one of his children, no matter how much he probably should have. “You’re twenty-one. You can do whatever you want. If you want to keep it, Irvine will come around eventually, Selphie… I’ll deal with Selphie. Uncle Seifer says if they want to be pissy you can spend the night here and we’ll sort something out tomorrow.”

Sipping the drink thoughtfully, she nodded. “Caden doesn’t know yet.”

“Thought not. Kid can’t keep a secret to save his life,” Squall huffed, blowing his bangs out of his eyes and perched on the edge of the bed. “He’s supposed to be back tomorrow morning.”

“Got my dates mixed up,” Selina offered him a watery smile, a hundredth of the intensity that her usual smile could be but still pretty, if sad. “And dad found the box from test kit when he took the trash out. I just had to get out of there…”

“Do you know what you want to do?” Squall asked, reaching out to stroke her hair. He’d seen Selphie do it to calm her when she was a child and the effect seemed to have remained, her little hitches of breath smoothed out.

“I… need to talk to Cade. If he’s going to be famous, he doesn’t need a family to hold hi –“

“I asked what you want to do, not Caden. It’s your body – your baby.”

Selina frowned, taking a deep breath. She looked down at the drink and back up at him slowly and said very firmly “I want to keep it.”

“That’s all that matters then,” Squall smiled. “Come on, I started some cookies when you turned up on the doorstep – they should be ready now.”
